Joana Choumali est une photographe des beaux-arts basée à Abidjan, en Côte d’Ivoire. Une grande partie de son travail porte sur les portraits, l’Afrique, la féminité et les documentaires.
Dans cette expo, elle présente la série ” Résilientes ” à l’hôtel Onomo de Dakar (Sénégal), au sein de l’exposition ” Femme Photographe “. Dans le magazine Huffington Post, elle explique que “La résilience est la capacité de revenir à la forme originale après avoir été pliée, compressé ou étiré. C’est la capacité de récupérer facilement face à l’adversité. “
À travers ses portraits de femmes, elle montre des portraits de femmes africaines, portant des vêtements de leur grand-mère, comme un moyen de se connecter avec leur passé ancestral. C’est la grandeur d’une Afrique, qui échappe à une colonisation morbide.
En 2014, elle a participé à plusieurs expositions et décroche deux principaux trophées :

  • Lauréat du Prix POPCAP’14 Afrique Piclet.org 2014- « Hââbré, la dernière génération. »
  • LensCulture talents émergents Prix 2014 Gagnant  – « Hââbré, la dernière génération. »

Her family is from the center of the Ivory Coast (Akan). Naema grew up in a multi culrural family in between Abidjan, and Bonn (Germany) where she used to spend her childhood summers with Marianne, her german paternal grandmother. According to her, a modern African woman is the perfect synthesis of African tradition and the western culture. . "I went to the photo session with apprehension, I was nervous to be portrayed in a this traditional outfit i never wear. The clothes I was wearing belonged to my maternal grandmother. I used call her Nanou. She is Fon from her father tribe , and Yoruba from her mother. She is from Abomey and Porto Novo. Anifa , 33, :" i claim a certain ethnicity in choosing her outfits and accessories.
