French activist Assa Traoré received an award at the Bet Awards for her fight.

Sunday, June 28, 2020, Assa Traoré received an award for her fight against racism and police violence. Indeed, she was rewarded by the American channel BET (Black Entertainment Television) for her years of struggle where she asked for justice for her brother Adama Traoré.

Justice for Adama

In July 2016, Adama Traore died of asphyxiation in a police station on his 24th birthday in 2016, following his arrest by the gendarmes at Beaumont-sur-Oise in the Val-d’Oise. His family has been asking for justice for 4 years. Assa Traore regularly organizes protests to demand justice for her brother and to raise awareness about racism and police violence. These peaceful protests attract thousands of people who want to change things. May justice be the same for all!

Honorary award at the Bet Awards

BET Awards are a ceremony which rewards African-American or minority personalities each year in various fields of culture and entertainment.

Adama Traore’s sister received the BET International Global Good Award for her activism.

The Hollywood Reporter magazine explains:

She joins the list of former winners such as singer Akon and British activist Chakabars.

Thanks for four years of fight.

Grateful, Assa Traoré underlines that this prize “is a recognition for the“ four years of struggle ”.

Sur son compte Instagram, Assa déclare :

“This award is an encouragement for the future. The name of my little brother, Adama Traoré, has become that of a fight, that of our rights. This price will make it even stronger. Thank you BET for this international award, and this recognition which gives voice to our voices ”
