Men’s swimwear | Òkun
Afroculture.net presents the brand of swimwear for men Òkun. The clothing brand was launched in 2012 in London by Nigerian creative director Bola Marquis.
Òkun is a brand of swimwear for men with African inspirations. These swimsuits have vibrant colors and are born from the desire to share the positive spirit of this continent with the world through print and color. The drawings are from the African heritage with fabrics with bold colors such as Congolese Kuba, Ghanaian adinkra, Kenyan kikoy and batik.
What is the meaning of Òkun?
Òkun is a Yoruba word, which means “ocean” and emphasizes the transcontinental spirit of the brand.
The brand quickly attracted the attention of major international retailers such as United Arrows Tokyo, La Rinascente Milan, Le Bon Marché Paris and Luisaviaroma Florence. This exceptional launch season has won the 2014 UK Fashion & Textile Rise Award.
This season, their swim shorts also come in a traditional fisherman’s pocket, hand-woven by craftsmen in Mauritius, where shorts are currently produced. Indeed, after two seasons of manufacture in the United Kingdom, production has just settled in Mauritius and Madagascar. The brand presented itself for the Paris Men’s Fashion Week at the Man Trade Show and the Heavy London Showroom.
Òkun, a company with a big heart
The company also raises funds for two charities: the Ethiopian Education Fund, which offers high school scholarships, and the Dada Marquis Foundation in Nigeria, which provides affordable accommodation for students.
