Damaraland: a magnificent place to visit in Namibia
Located in the west of Namibia, between the Skeleton Coast, the Etosha National Park border in the north and Kaokoland in the south, Damaraland is an arid region of alternating mountain passes and savannahs. With arid landscapes of exceptional beauty, a mysterious “petrified forest”, rock paintings, wild fauna and surprising flora, it’s a must-see place to visit in Namibia. What’s more, it’s fascinating to discover the Spitzkoppe massif (1,728 m) and the Brandberg (2,573 m), as well as the archaeological site of Twyfelfontein.
It used to be a territory reserved for the Damaras ethnic group. They are one of Namibia’s oldest peoples. As for the wildlife, this incredible place is home to zebras, oryx, giraffes, lions, kudu, elephants, leopards and more. The fauna is rich and varied, with aloes, pachypodium and more.
