On Friday 30 July 2021, we lost a monument of West Indian music. Jacob Desvarieux, leader of the group Kassav and pioneer of Zouk, died at the age of 65 of Covid-19 at the University Hospital in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

How was his health?

The Guadeloupean musician was already in poor health, as he was diabetic and had received a kidney transplant in 2008. He received 3 doses of vaccines. In mid-July, he was admitted to hospital after being contaminated by Covid-19. He was placed in a coma. Unfortunately, he breathed his last at the age of 65.

Kassav: an incredible collective.

An emblematic figure and co-founder of Kassav in 1979, the singer and guitarist Desvarieux has made the whole world dance to unforgettable, smile-inducing music such as Zouk la sé sèl médikaman nou ni, Syé bwa, Oh Madiana, Kolé Séré, Wep and more.
