Black painter witness of the Holocaust: Josef Nassy
Black American painter of Jewish origin, Josef Nassy was a direct witness of the Holocaust. During his imprisonment in the camp, he painted several works for the daily life of prisoners in internment camps during his confinement in the German camps of Laufen and Tittmoning.

Unsung hero.
In Suriname Josef Nassey’s Jewish father sent him to NY to further his education. Josef’s mother was an African slave. Josef Nassey married a Belgium woman who sold all his paintings to a Jewish buyer and now his work is in special collections of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.
